Rangers have confirmed their interest in Bristol City forward Nicky Maynard. The English born striker has been a stand out player for Bristol in recent seasons and with his club struggling in the Championship it is thought he would welcome a move away from the club. Maynard played in Arsenals youth before being released in 1994. The 24 year old forward has bags of pace which terrifies defenders.

Since the departure of Kenny Miller in January to Bursaspor Jelavic has missed the partner he craves. Yes, Jelavic can carry the front line on his own but he does flourish when he has someone playing with him. Maynard would be the ideal partner for the big Croatian as Maynard’s pace and agility mixed with Jelavic’s strength and arial ability is a frightening combination.

Rangers manager Ally McCoist couldn’t speak highly enough of the player, he said “Nicky is a fantastic striker. Lately he has fallen out of favour but he still manages to score goals and this is the type of player I need to help us win our 4th title in a row. Maynard has fantastic pace and his pace mixed with nikicia’s pace would really trouble defences.”

It is thought Bristol want around £4m for the player which shouldn’t put the Scottish club off. At the age of 24 Maynard has time to improve and he shows some real potential. Maynard would be a quality addition to McCoists squad and at only £4m McCoist should do what he can to lure the player to the club.
